The Gaer
Located in South Wales, The Gaer site required a high-performance renewable energy system to meet complex engineering and environmental demands. The client sought a trusted partner to manage a fast-tracked, technically challenging project while prioritising performance, reliability and minimal environmental impact.
The Objective
The client needed a high-performance 1.1 MW solar system that met strict efficiency targets and tight DNO timelines. This involved replacing overhead lines with underground cables, integrating a new substation, and completing all design and engineering within just two weeks — all while minimising environmental impact during construction.
The Solution
Alt-Group delivered a high-performing solar PV system that overcame technical and environmental challenges within a tight delivery window.
Infrastructure upgrades
We worked with the DNO to replace overhead lines with underground cables and delivered a new substation to ensure seamless integration.
Optimised design
Our engineers minimised system losses — achieving under 3% total (1% a.c., 1.2% d.c.) — by refining cable sizing, inverter placement, and using 25mm² earth bonds through detailed calculations.
Sustainable execution
Material use was reduced wherever possible, including concrete and cabling, without compromising safety. Tools like Trimble ProDesign, Trimble Protect, and our custom d.c. calculator ensured accuracy and compliance.
The project was completed on time with minimal environmental impact and long-term resilience built in.
