Garden King is a large garden centre located in Swadlincote, offering a substantial range of both garden plants and attractions, from outdoor plants and furniture to homeware and gifts. Attractions and events include soft play, holiday clubs and a restaurant.

The Objective

Garden King recently approached Alt-Group to complete their fourth solar installation at their Swadlincote site. The site currently uses 350,000 kWhs of electric per year however, due to the significant expanses to the site with a new soft play area and larger restaurant they needed a renewable option that would support both the future increase in electricity consumption and maintain the business emissions.

The Solution

Alt-Group undertook a technical site visit to understand the building and site connection potential in further detail. As the roofs were mono pitched and Alt-Group were involved with the design at an early stage they were able to maximise the roofs’ potential by offering a 263kW PV solution.

The solar PV system is predicted to generate 229,000 kWhs per year, providing over 56% of the company’s electricity needs, saving over 53 tons of CO2 a year and providing Garden King with a 4-year payback on their investment.
