Wolgarston School
Wolgarston School partnered with Alt-Group to deliver a bespoke solar
PV installation designed to reduce rising energy costs and carbon
emissions. The project forms part of the school’s wider sustainability
strategy while supporting long-term budget resilience and enhancing
educational opportunities for students.
The Objective
The school was facing increasing energy costs and growing pressure to reduce its environmental impact. Their objective was to implement a long-term renewable energy
solution that would lower operational expenditure, support sustainability targets, and create a real-world learning resource for students across the school community.
The Solution
Alt-Group designed a bespoke roof-mounted solar PV system distributed across multiple buildings to maximise generation despite limited and varied roof space. Installation was carefully scheduled during school holidays to minimise disruption, with structural assessments ensuring suitability of older buildings. Grant funding support improved project viability and return on investment.
The Result
The installation delivered immediate and measurable benefits for the school, both financially and environmentally. The school has reported a significant reduction in monthly energy costs, saving approximately £3,000 per month since installation, alongside a substantial reduction in carbon emissions supporting long-term sustainability goals. Energy resilience at the school has been strengthened through the installation of the system, which is now actively used as a teaching tool in the classroom, giving students practical insight into renewable energy. It has also improved budget predictability amid rising energy costs and reinforced the school’s position as a local leader in sustainability.
